The Two Travelers and the Power of Du’a

A Journey of Faith

Two friends, Hamid and Kareem, set off on a long journey across the desert. Before leaving, Hamid prayed, “Ya Allah, guide us safely to our destination and bless our journey.” Kareem, however, laughed and said, “We have food, water, and strong camels. Why do you rely on prayers?”

Hamid simply smiled and replied, “Everything is in Allah’s hands. We do our part, but du’a (supplication) brings barakah (blessings).”

A Test in the Desert

As they traveled, a violent sandstorm struck. The strong winds blinded them, and they lost their way. Their camels panicked and ran off, leaving them stranded with only a small amount of water.

Kareem panicked. “We are doomed! We should have stayed back!”

But Hamid remained calm and said, “Allah does not abandon those who trust in Him. Let us pray and have patience.” He raised his hands and made sincere du’a, asking Allah for guidance and help.

A Sign of Mercy

As night fell, they saw a flickering light in the distance. With renewed hope, they walked toward it and found a small tent where an old Bedouin lived.

The kind man welcomed them, gave them food and water, and even helped them find their camels. When Kareem saw how everything had worked out, he realized the power of du’a.

“I doubted you, Hamid, but now I see that Allah truly listens.”

Hamid smiled and reminded him of the words of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ):

“Du’a is the essence of worship.” (Tirmidhi, 3371)

A Lesson Learned

When they finally reached their destination, Kareem had changed. He now made du’a every day, realizing that no matter how strong or prepared we are, we are always in need of Allah’s help.

Moral Lessons

  1. Never Underestimate the Power of Du’a – Allah hears and answers in the best way.
  2. Trust in Allah, but Also Take Action – Do your part, but always ask for His guidance.
  3. Difficulties Are a Test of Faith – Hardships bring us closer to Allah.
  4. Gratitude and Patience Lead to Success – Those who trust in Allah will always find a way.

May Allah make us among those who never forget to call upon Him. Ameen.
