The Wise Teacher and His Students
In a small town, a well-respected teacher, Sheikh Abdul Rahman, gathered his students one evening for an unusual lesson. He brought them into a dark room with no windows. The students could see nothing but complete darkness.
The sheikh then lit a small candle, and immediately, the entire room was illuminated. He smiled and said, “See how this tiny flame removed the darkness?”
The students nodded.
Then he continued, “Now, what if each of you held a candle and lit it from mine?”
One by one, each student lit a candle, and soon, the room was filled with a bright, warm glow.
The Message of Light
The sheikh looked at them and said, “This is how goodness works. Even a small act of kindness or faith can remove the darkness of ignorance, sin, and despair.”
One student asked, “Sheikh, but what if someone blows out our light?”
The sheikh smiled and said, “Then relight it. Never let darkness overpower your light. And if someone’s candle has gone out, help them rekindle it.”
He then recited the words of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ):
“The best among you are those who bring the most benefit to others.” (Hadith – Sahih Al-Jami’, 3289)
A Life-Changing Lesson
The students left that night with a new understanding. From that day forward, they made a habit of spreading kindness—helping the poor, teaching others, and reminding people about Allah’s mercy.
Whenever they faced hardships, they remembered their teacher’s lesson: Be the light in someone’s darkness.
Moral Lessons
- Even a Small Good Deed Can Make a Big Difference – Like a candle, kindness spreads.
- Help Others Rekindle Their Faith – If someone is lost, guide them back with love and wisdom.
- Never Let Darkness Overpower You – If you face hardship, keep your faith strong.
- Goodness Multiplies When Shared – Just like the students’ candles, goodness spreads when we help others.
May Allah make us sources of light in this world. Ameen.
